HOW CHRONIC ILLNESS UNLEASHED
MY INNER SELF LOVE WARRIOR
Picture
Like many women I have always had a love/hate relationship with myself.  I was not happy with the person I was looking at in the mirror and would self sabotage myself any chance I got.

My inner critic was on maximum volume constantly berating myself for not being good enough, thin enough, pretty enough, confident enough, talking too much and the list goes on and on.

I was a chronic people pleaser, always putting others first, giving more of myself to others than I gave to myself, believing that others opinions and needs were worth more than my own. I honestly had no self-worth and I was attracting people into my life who were taking advantage of my weakness.

Ironically, it wasn't until I hit rock bottom with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that I finally started to believe in my self-worth and found the confidence to make a change and live life to my highest potential.

I never thought in a million years that I would become a health and wellness ambassador dedicated to supporting women to  heal, and to be the best version of themselves through a holistic approach to healthy living, but I've learned that the universe ultimately had a bigger plan for my life.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome completely transformed my life, it forced me to finally love and accept myself in spite of my flaws and limitations, it taught me to turn on my power and fight for myself and for my health.

I'm grateful for my illness every day because it allowed me to see things clearly for the first time, like waking from a dream and helped me to believe in myself and own my self worth.

Illness has a way of changing us from the inside out, often giving us a new lease on life and steering us in a new and exciting direction.

Here are three key things my illness taught me;

Loving yourself is in non-negotiable!

The most important relationship you have in your life is the one you have with yourself.  I spent years putting other people needs before my own, I gave so much of myself to others that I had nothing left to give to myself.

Constantly giving to others and not yourself is a sure fire way to burn yourself out and cause chronic illness, you cant pour from an empty cup?  Since I have invested in extreme self love, my entire world has changed for the better.

Our most powerful asset is our mind

You can eat all the green smoothies and kale you like but if you have an unhealthy mind then you will never be well and live your life to your fullest potential.

The thoughts we have impact our health and wellbeing, negative self talk and self limiting beliefs create a physiological response in the body activating our stress response. Chronic stress is linked to many illness and it played a big part in my getting ill.

Train the mind, the mind trains the body

The company you keep is crucial to your health and wellness

During my healing journey the ‘friends’ who I thought had my best interest at heart weren't there when I needed them the most.

Any healing journey can be really isolating, especially Chronic Fatigue Syndrome when you have no energy for socialising, but it also gives you time to assess the areas in your life that may not be best serving you.

I learnt that many people in my life were not serving me and it was better to have one true friend than have a group of friends that weren't there for me when I needed them the most, or drained my precious energy.

With whom you spend your time is whom you become, choose wisely. I chose to release the toxic people of my past and invest my time and energy in those who support me and inspire me to be the best version of myself.
